Tips for Getting Your Kids to Explore

Take your child to a bookstore and have them pick out their own adventure book.

Explain that sometimes life won’t always be easy, but the best adventures are the ones that have challenges along the way -like climbing up mount Everest!

Schedule family time together. Make sure you’re spending time with each other as a family and going on adventures together where you can bond as a family.

Try GeoCaching- its free, fun, and really encourages exploration and adventure.

Create an adventure journal for your children. Make sure it includes a map and directions and space for them to write about each adventure they go on.

Buy your kids some maps that have hidden pictures in them. Challenge your kids to find each one!

Try getting involved in different activities like hiking, horseback riding, and rock climbing. All these things will be challenging (and fun!) for your child while also giving them a chance to explore nature and learn about themselves!

Explore your neighborhood together as a family. Make sure you take plenty of pictures and have a nice picnic afterwards.

Turn off the TV for a full day, and instead spend time with your children in nature. Talk about your favorite memories of being outdoors as a child!

Go to the library together as a family and pick out some adventure books you can all read together. Play games after reading each one.

Ways that you can Encourage Your Children to Take Risks and have an Adventure!

Risks are good. Help your children understand that if they take risks, they will get something out of it- either a learning experience or an amazing new thing that they would never have had. This helps to reassure them that whatever happens is okay and nothing can be gained by being cautious all the time!

Instead of playing video games, encourage your children to go out and use their imaginations. Playing together can be a great way for you to bond with them while they are also learning about themselves!

Tell your kids that they can do anything they put their minds to- even if it is something that seems impossible.

Encourage your child to try new things by having a positive attitude about it.

Tell your children that taking risks is a way to learn and grow as a person.

Let your child know that they don’t have to figure out their entire life plan right now,  they have all the time in the world for that!

Encourage your children to make friends with kids who are open to new things.
